NFT-STARTUP DORONICHEV OPTIC RAISED $11 MILLION

Last update:

Startup Optic, which uses artificial intelligence to authenticate NFTs, has raised $11M in a seed round led by Kleiner Perkins and the crypto investment giant Pantera Capital. The company plans to spend funds on creating infrastructure and hiring staff, said in an interview CoinDesk co-founder and CEO Optic Andrey Doronichev, who used to be the director of products at Google, appeared in Dud's issue about Silicon Valley. Other investors in the round included Lattice Capital, OpenSea, Circle, Polygon, coindcx, Neon DAO, greylock, Flamingo DAO and others.

Doronichev explained that although the NFT is technically unique with its ID in the chain, its appearance to the human eye can still be indistinguishable from a fake.

Optic and NFT authentication

Company Optic, was founded in March 2022 in San Francisco, USA, to develop an AI that processes millions of new NFTs daily and compares them with existing ones. Algorithms look for visual similarities, including upside-down images, color changes or slight distortions, fuzziness and other types of differences, after which the monitoring tool informs marketplaces, brands or media companies of potential intellectual property infringements.

Optic displays similarity as a percentage, how closely the token matches existing NFT collections. Doronichev said a score below 95% means the NFT is likely a derivative or an inspired work of art. One of Optic Marketplace Moderation's tools is currently in use OpenSea as part of the company's anti-fraud efforts.

Immediate plans Optic include the creation of a public API for Web3 developers, as well as new tools for creators and NFT collectors.

In addition to working at Google, Doronichev led the YouTube Mobile team at a time when the video platform was creating its ContentID system to combat piracy. He founded Optic together with AI researchers Roman Doronin and Vlad Vinogradov, who founded Eora Data Lab, an AI studio that has implemented projects for companies such as PepsiCo and Yandex.
