NEWZOO HOLD A SURVEY AMONG GAMERS

Last update:

Newzoo conducted a survey, as a result of which it turned out that the general interest in blockchain games has grown in many countries. But the developers still need to change something in the education of the players by eradicating the barriers of misunderstanding, and the sense of risk that clearly prevents the introduction of blockchain games to the masses.

The survey received 4569 responses from gamers in the US, Indonesia, and the UK. The survey focused on players who play on consoles, mobile devices and PC.

Conclusions:

  • 40% of gamers from the above countries are interested in blockchain games and will probably try to play at least one of them this year.
  • However, only 5% of this group are strongly interested, and 35% are moderately interested players.
  • These are exactly the barriers and unresolved problems that hinder the mass adoption of blockchain games.
  • Only 33% of moderately interested gamers have some knowledge of blockchain games compared to half of interested gamers.
  • One of the important problems that repels gamers from blockchain games is the lack of knowledge about crypto and NFT.
  • Gamers are asking for a lower cost of entry, with many still believing that all blockchain games require an upfront investment but wouldn't want to pay a lot. Perhaps, just after ignorance, comes the entry cost barrier.
  • All of this results in 46% of moderately engaged gamers being afraid of losing their money (compared to 32% of highly engaged gamers). This means that developers need to educate gamers about the risks and be more transparent in order to attract a larger audience.
  • It is also worth noting that a group of highly interested and moderately interested gamers have completely different goals in blockchain games. The highly motivated are after profits, while the more casual gamers want to enjoy the game first and foremost.
  • В Newzoo believe that the best strategy that will lead to the massive adoption of blockchain games is to create high-quality games that use the PAE (play and earn) model, and not P2E (play to earn).
  • According to analysts, AAA game publishers need to minimize the use of the terms "blockchain", "cryptocurrency" and "NFT", as they only scare away gamers and cause outrage.
