CCP GAMES DEVELOPS A NEW AAA GAME IN THE EVE ONLINE UNIVERSE
Yes, yes, the same creators of the very legendary "game of spaceships and Excel spreadsheets" CCP Games raised $40 million in seed to create a new game in the Eve universe. Lead investor: Andreessen Horowitz (A16z), Bitkraft Ventures, Hashed Fund and others participated.
CEO of CCP Games, Hilmar Veigar, is convinced that AAA games using Web3 can provide a new and unique experience that will attract the attention of a large number of players.
Since 2018, 50 million Eve Online players have produced 276 billion game items and participated in a historic war. For example, the battle in the M2-XFE system was listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Over 3000 spaceships worth $378K were destroyed during the battle.
Ubisoft and Square Enix are not alone, as they say. It is the success of one of the majors that can give a new impetus to the development of cryptogaming.
In the meantime, we haven't heard of Star Atlas aka the “EVE online killer” for a long time. Apparently they can not recover after the collapse of FTX.
POLYGON FORKS TWO SIGNIFICANT PARTNERSHIPS WITH NEXON GAMES AND IMMUTABLE
In my opinion, it makes no sense to explain what a big role gaming plays in onboarding fresh blood into the blockchain ecosystem.
In short, Nexon is an ancient publisher from the 90s. 20 years ago they released their main hit MapleStory and which has spin-offs. More than 150 million users have been registered in different versions of the game. Their MMORPG still has about 400k DAUs. It would seem that everything was sucked out, but not everything.
So the Koreans decided to dilute the Web3 game. Now players will be able to earn and use NFT items in a special supernet from Polygon. And polygon will get access to a new potential audience that can be dragged into its ecosystem.
And just the other day, Polygon entered into a partnership with Immutable. The latter dubbed this partnership “legendary”. And finally $IMX will get utilities. Now it can be used to pay for gas, and $MATIC for voting. The testnet is expected to be launched by the end of Q2 2023.
While Solana is barely breathing and has lost its full potential, Polygon continues to strengthen its position and capture an increasing part of the audience and is currently one of the best solutions for running game dapps, considering a combination of factors: toolset, reliability, evm- compatibility, audience size, developer community, developed ecosystem, backers, reputation, region in which it dominates.
