This text is a translation of a short interviewwhich was given by the developers of EOS Knights for Block.one.

Myeongjin Shin, co-founder of EOS Knights, one of the most popular gaming applications of EOSIO today, tells us what makes his role-playing game (RPG) so special, and why the blockchain technology is so suitable for the RPG infrastructure in general.

How would you describe your project?

Myeongjin shin: EOS Knights is a mobile RPG game that runs on the EOS blockchain. From the player's point of view, it is no different from a regular RPG game, except that its foundation is the EOS smart contract. Throughout the game, players can collect and craft up to 55 items, the materials for which are divided into several categories "Natural", "Metals", "Bones", "Leathers" and "Minerals". By creating and wearing more rare and complex items, the heroes become stronger in the manufacture of items. The game does not have its own currency, so players can trade materials and items in the in-game market using EOS tokens. EOS Knights has consistently been ranked as one of the most popular applications on blockchain application analytics platforms (Dappradar, Stateofthedapps) for over half a year, with over 5000 DAUs (Daily Active Users) and 200 daily transactions.

How did the original idea of the game come to you?

Myeongjin shin: I have always been an avid role-playing player such as Diablo 2 and Monster Hunter. I also heard about Bitcoin, when it was still in its infancy, the idea of which inspired me to study the underlying blockchain technology. After a while, there was a desire to unite my old and new interests into something revolutionary, so I created EOS Knights, which is essentially a bloc version of an RPG game based on collecting materials and crafting items. In addition, the ability to trade in the in-game market requires a strong confidence in the game, which provides a smart contract that establishes rarity and controls the value of various materials and eliminates the possibility of the game administrator manipulating data and prices. Thus, such characteristics make EOS Knights an ideal project demonstrating the advantages of the blockchain technology.

Can you introduce your team and tell us what makes it special?

Myeongjin shin: The EOS Knights team is Bada Studio, which consists of me and my co-founder friend Seonhyang Kim. We both have experience in related fields: I worked as a game and smart contract developer for ten years, and Seonhyang worked as a concept art designer for five years. We both worked for LINE, one of the most instant messengers in Asia, and I also worked for Naver, one of the largest IT companies in Korea (Korean Google). Besides the two of us, we have four temporary employees who help us build the servers and maintain our UX / UI. In addition to being well versed in game development, we are also experts in blockchain technology, all of these factors make us a strong team.

EOS Knights

At what stage is the project and what are your plans for expansion?

Myeongjin shin: From the start of EOS Knights in August 2018, we added a large amount of content to the game and periodically updated our roadmap. Ultimately, our vision is to help the mass adoption of the blockchain through EOS Knights, since we believe that it is games that are likely to be the first catalyst for the widespread adoption of technology.

Why did you decide to use blockchain technology, namely on EOSIO?

Myeongjin shin: We appreciate the blockchain for its transparency, which is the basis for a reliable in-game economic system. Since all game data is publicly available on the blockchain, the administrator cannot change the players' records at will. This ensures that players can trust that all digital assets and game data have been released in accordance with the rules established by the smart contract. From our point of view, EOSIO is the best platform for creating gaming applications, given its high response speed, large number of transactions per second and wide opportunities in the development of smart contracts.

How did the EOS community respond to your project?

Myeongjin shin: As seen from the popularity of EOS Knights on StateoftheDapps и DappRadar, many users in the community liked our game. We also created groups in Telegram and WeChat, where users provide a lot of feedback and help us improve the game. Some of them even created all possible performance calculators, systems for monitoring the turnover of the in-game market and account activity. In the meantime, we continue to improve the game and make it even more exciting for our users.
