How to make money playing crypto games? Part 1

Last update:

For many of you who came across this article, I think it is no longer a secret that there are games in which you can make real money! There are a huge variety of mobile and browser games for every taste and color that promise earnings, but some of them, unfortunately, are pyramids. They make payments at first, and then “go into the sunset” with investors' money!

There is also a trade in artifacts, skins, pumped heroes in more famous games, for example in the same World of Warcraft or other games. Here, you have a small list of big deals and purchases in games:

  • Diablo 3 Echoes of Fury Weapon - $ 14000;
  • Ethereal Flames Wardog character in DOTA 2 - $ 38000;
  • Virtual Amsterdam in Second Life - $ 50000;
  • World of Warcraft Hero Zeuzo - $ 10000

It seems that everything is quite simple, you can pump your hero and make good money on it. But Blizzard had a distinctly different opinion on this. They just blocked the character. In general, many well-known game developers prohibit such trading and are struggling with it in every way. All content in the game belongs to the developers and is located on their servers. You rather donate the amount to them and in return get the right to exclusive use of virtual items / heroes, and do not own your purchases. All this greatly limits the opportunities for making money on games. What to do?

But time passes, technology develops and does not stand still. Surely, you have heard about blockchain technology, bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and most likely you know their main advantages:

  • full control over your funds;
  • more difficult to censor or restrict;
  • transparency of operations;
  • getting rid of intermediaries;
  • instant transfers and low commissions (not everywhere).

Someone could even make good money on the difference in rates. But you can ask: "Hey, what's the connection between cryptocurrencies and games?" My answer is straight!

Cryptogaming

The development of blockchain platforms such as: Ethereum, EOS, TRON, gave us the opportunity to use decentralized applications (DApps). These can be the same applications as on your phone or PC, but working on the blockchain. In other words, they don't work on one computer, but on several (see the diagram).

And if the game was WoW DApp, then the developers would not be able to block the character or deal in such a game. Games using blockchain technology are called crypto games or blockchain games.

By the way, the founder of the Ethereum blockchain network, Vitalik Buterin, was a big fan of World of Warcraft - until Blizzard removed his favorite spell from his character. By this time, Acne put into the game a lot of time and effort, and he recalls that he fell asleep that day in tears. Exactly at that moment he realized the scale of the threat that centralization of power carries.

How to make money and what is the advantage of a crypto game over the ordinary ones?

Playing cryptogames, you can earn a cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, EOS, Ethereum, etc.), then you can sell a crypt on the exchange for real money! Or you can get valuable items and sell them to another player for cryptocurrency on the court. OpenSea, it sells items from different crypto games.

How can you earn in the game?

  • PvP rewards;
  • reward for PvE;
  • in-game trading;
  • tournaments;
  • Resource mining;
  • viewing ads;
  • creating content for the game;
  • and so on.

The biggest advantage of crypto games is that the items you bought are stored in your wallet and belong only to you - they are your property. Dispose of it however you want, and the wallet connects to the game and thus you can use the items in the game. Items are unique because they are tokenized and information about this is stored in the blockchain. Even if something happens to the game and there is no access to it, the items will not go anywhere. They are tokenized and stored in your wallet. In fact, such items are like cryptocurrency, but only with pictures.

In addition, such items can be used in different games. Below is a video of the gameplay with a crypto game on the Enjin platform. It demonstrates how this system works with a blockchain wallet. You get an item in the game and you can immediately exchange it for cryptocurrency.

How much can you earn?

According to the experience of members of our community (there you can ask questions about crypto-games and chat) @CryptoGamingPool I can say that someone is well able to make money on the trade, and someone is good in the battles of PvP.

As a result (the amount is indicated at the time of the game process):

  • sometimes 10 ETH + per month; (course see here)
  • sometimes 1 ETH per month;
  • sometimes in a small minus.

Some developers use monetization Play-to-earn (play to earn) Embodying the old dream of gamers. Such games are usually monetized by users viewing ads and you get cryptocurrency. For example: Crypto Idle Miner.

As a result, in some crypto games you will be able to earn money, but in some not. You need to put up with this and try to limit losses, for example, increasing gaming skills, strategy and awareness of new products.

* The sooner you enter the project after its release, the higher the chance to earn! There are also presales. On presales they usually give a good discount on items and you can make money on it if you sell the item more expensive at the start of the game, but there are also risks. You need to be aware of the projects. We recommend playing free-to-play at the very beginning to feel more confident, then participate in presales.

My personal best is about 20 ETH in about 3 a month. If you take the clock, then about 280 active hours of the game.

Proof of earnings in one of the WarField cryptogames (now the development of the game is frozen indefinitely). Below is a photo gallery of screenshots from the exchange Coinbenewhere the GLDR token is traded. The screenshots show all transfers of GLDR I earned in the game, then I sold them for ETH and EOS on the exchange and transferred them to my wallets. All transactions are stored on the blockchain - you can check.

Below that is the video, as it was. Each frag gave the GLDR tokens. Below you can see the number of tokens in my account.

And here is the story of one of the players Prospectors, in the crypto game of the economic strategy genre in the setting of gold miners during the gold rush. https://medium.com/@prospectorsgame/true-stories-from-prospectors-meet-the-nomad-339335829e39

How to start?

At this stage, many people have problems. Because the industry is at a very early stage of development and the launch of DApp requires special applications, manipulations, and more. Actually, that's why we launched the educational project CryptoGamingPool Academy. In the 2 part there will be a video compilation for clarity, how does it work, and in the 3rd part we will continue on “how to start”only more details. In the meantime, tell you what you need to start. I am glad that such large companies as Ubisoft drew attention to the emerging industry and are already experimenting with their the first crypto game HashCraft. So,

  1. To enter a crypto game, you will need a wallet (a pair of keys) in the blockchain, where the game and a program for working with web3 applications are deployed, with the function of signing transactions or simply a cryptocurrency wallet (client) with such a function, it is also called a DApp browser. For crypto games:

on Ethereum:

on WAX:

2. You will most likely need some cryptocurrency of the platform you will be playing on (to pay for transactions or for a starter pack). If the game is on Ethereum, then ETH, if WAX, then WAX, if Polygon, then Matic in order to pay network fees when performing important actions in the game that require transactions.

3. Link to the game: Here you can see the catalog of our selected games..
