As you probably already know, the activation of Constantinople has been postponed several times due to the vulnerabilities found. And now, it seems, the day has come when ethereum switches to a new chain. This is expected to be 28.02.19 by the end of the day, on the 7 280 000 block.
You shouldn't wait for new coins, because most of the developers and community members supported him. And spring for miners will not start so sunny. block reward will decrease from 3 eth to 2 eth (earlier thanks to Byzantium it was reduced from 5 eth to 3 eth). Overall, this hard fork brings ethereum closer to PoS.
As for the majority of users, we will not even notice any changes in the update process, and the effect is expected to be even positive:
- reduced inflation;
- through EIP 145 changes in smart contracts will be cheaper in 10;
- EIP 1014 activates the so-called status channels. Ethereum will be scaled using off-chain transactions;
- EIP 1052 teach smart contracts to confirm each other using only one hash. Before Constantinople, this was done by checking the entire code, which is long and expensive;
- EIP 1283 reduces the cost of gas and reduces the cost of transactions.
