"The era of Multiverse games is coming"

What is a gaming multiverse?

The various universes within the Multiverse are often called "parallel" or "alternative" universes or "other dimensions."

In a gaming context, this will allow players to use their multiverse items across multiple games. In theory, players will move between parallel universes, where they can see and use their multiverse objects in different forms and with different functions (see picture below).

Just imagine that you can jump from one virtual world to another and bring your characters, weapons, vehicles, assistants and equipment with you. Or imagine how it might look like in VR or AR games in a few years. You turn on your device, put on your usual costume, armor, weapons and go on a journey through some post-apocalyptic game world, tomorrow with the same set / equipment, but in a different style, you go on a journey through the Middle Ages. This is something that can fundamentally change the way we develop, produce, monetize, and the gameplay itself. And this is only possible using blockchain.

Blockchain is a bridge between devices, people and worlds. To understand this, it is important to note:

  • All data in the blockchain is publicly available for any system with access to the Internet;
  • assets in the blockchain are easily moved from one address to another;
  • wherever these assets are, the same set of rules, regulations and smart contracts apply to them.

This allows assets to move seamlessly between devices. Bottom line: Not only can blockchain be used to create assets that can be transferred between games, but those assets can also be integrated into any device with internet access, thereby creating an ecosystem that can interact with every aspect of our lives.

Enjin hopes that their multiverse will have thousands of games. Recently, only 6 games were in development, today 12 is already, and from the words of the Enjin Coin team, about 300 applications have already been submitted for adding games to the multiverse.

How does Enjin Coin work?

At the heart of everything is the new standard ethereum-tokens ERC-1155, which was recently created by the Enjin developers.

To understand what its superiority over other standards, you need to remember what ERC-20 and ERC-721 are and compare them with ERC-1155. If you already know about this, then you can not deploy these 2 spoilers below.

ERC-721 is a Non-Fungible Tokens standard. Non-interchangeability - this is perhaps its main difference from the interchangeable ERC-20 🙂

For example, you participate in an ICO and received ERC-20 tokens, a record of your ownership rights is created in a smart contract, no matter what kind of tokens they are. Because they are all the same. 100 tokens of some OmiseGO (OMG) they will always be equal in value to the other 100 OMG tokens. It looks more like currency. $ 5 in your pocket is equal to the value of $ 5 in your friend's pocket шь Say, “obviously ?!”, read on)

with ERC-721 everything is different. Each ERC-721 token, even if issued by one project, is unique and smart contracts record its movements through the takeownership function and the token can accumulate value in itself. And it is more suitable for digitizing unique assets. Each ERC-721 is not equal to another ERC-721. This is perfect for game projects or digitizing art objects, for example. Let's imagine for a second that you are playing Diablo on the blockchain, then your character could be an ERC-721 token and, as the game progresses, would accumulate a certain value, therefore, such a token can be sold to another player for a higher price, because the character is pumped, has more experience , strength and other things.

In short, ERC-20 is used as the currency of ERC-721 as items or unique assets, collectibles.

ERC-1155 is a new token standard and was created on 17.06.2018/XNUMX/XNUMX by the Enjin Coin team
In ERC-1155, you can send any number of items to one or several recipients IN ONE TRANSACTION! This is a breakthrough! As you know, in games there are consumables, for example, cartridges, nails or game currency (ERC-20), and there is also an automatic machine, a hammer, a sword, armor (ERC-721) and now all this can be sent to different users in one transaction, thanks to the new standard tokens.

Another example: Imagine that you are in the store, and ERC-1155 has not yet been invented, then you would have to buy each product separately. You take the goods from the shelf and carry it through the entire store, then pay for the goods at the checkout, then return for the next product, and so with each. Hell! Yes, it's inconvenient, expensive and long. But according to this principle, so far a lot of work in the blockchain is exactly like this.

In short, the ERC-1155 combines the best of the ERC-20 and ERC-721. Items are now stored in ONE! contract with the minimum possible amount of data required to distinguish the token from others - it is cheaper for development.

Atomic swaps and multitransfers

In order to implement the so-called. atomic swap (exchange of one type of token to another without an intermediary) with existing token constructs it would take 4 steps. (see the 1 diagram). These are the 4 transactions required to exchange 2 tokens. Each additional type of token added to the transaction will require an additional step of approval, as ERC-20 tokens and ERC-721 tokens are distributed across separate contracts. ERC-1155 allows you to exchange any number of tokens in just 2 simple steps. (see the 2 diagram). ERC-1155 You can send any number of items to one or several recipients in a single transaction.. For example: the same machine, your hero, hammer and consumables: bullets, nails, money to different users. This reduces the amount of gas and congestion in the Ethereum transaction pool (and saves you money!) (see diagram 3).

By the way, Enjin Coin is working on Efinity, its own infrastructure. Something like lightning for bitcoin, the potential of which is millions of users. And scalability is now the bottleneck for ethereum. Some games now have fiat payment channels like PayPal or Visa. This is an additional 2% -3% that will fall on the shoulders of the players and / or developers. And I have not said this yet about the transaction waiting time.

Features for developers and gamers?

  • Program early followers for developers.
  • True asset ownership (Item can be used in multiple games, not in one) In addition, you can melt it back to ENJ, to use it in games or exchange for fiat money. This is especially true for not very successful projects that the player did not like.
  • Liquidity on the largest exchanges.
  • Creating bundles. You can create one unique object from different objects.
  • Transparent conditions for developers and gamers. (Game developers can choose a "smelting charge", which cannot exceed 50%).
  • Light minting.
  • The system to combat cheaters.

It sounds, of course, inspiring and it is very similar to a platform that is adapted to mass adoption, but let's see how it will work in reality. This year we will see the first games of the multiverse.
